After being out for a few weeks many people are getting fed up with the multiplayer problems in Modern Warfare 2. We’ve seen exploits (like with the Javelin) and hacks (like the unlimited ammo one) come and go, but the game has some serious problems built in which are proving to be much worse.
All multiplayer FPS games have problems with spawn killing, and MW2 cleverly took care of that with deathstreak perks. What wasn’t as well addressed was the issue of camping, which is actually reinforced by killstreak bonuses. And if people are getting a match-ending 25-kill nukes more than very, very infrequently then something is wrong.
The video above (by Hutch, a popular COD YouTuber) walks through some of the problems that gamers are currently experiencing. He doesn’t get too much into the mechanics of nuke boosting, but basically players on opposite sides can team up, use tactical insertions to spawn in out-of-the-way places (near one another) and then one repeatedly kills the other until they have their nuke. Alternatively they can headshot one another to get the cooler camouflages on their weapons, or do any other sort of thing in order to complete in-game achievements.
The nukes are particularly bothersome not because other players are racking up massive experience but because it ends the match for everyone. This is camping taken to the game-breaking level, and it’s becoming more frequent.
Some players are taking note and acting out against exploiters:
Sal’s Opinion
Right now MW2 is suffering from a lot of camping and unsportsmanlike play (no surprise there). While little can be done to control people’s tactics Infinity Ward should be taking measures to promote fair and competitive gameplay. This is obviously easier said than done, as any changes to the game affect balance, but some measures can be put in place without affecting the vast majority of gamers. For example, if you kill the same player more than five times in a row, subsequent kills do no count towards kill streak bonuses.
The game’s developers have the data from millions of hours of gameplay stored, they just need to identify the problems (this is easy enough to do after a few hours playing online), check the statistics for confirmation, and then figure out fixes that address the problem without breaking anything else.
When played as intended MW2 is both fun and balanced. The issues come up when people are cheating or violating the spirit of the game (unloading on others with RPGs and grenade launchers in hardcore mode). Modern Warfare’s success is down mainly to it’s multiplayer component so the team behind it should take a firm stand on fairness and roll out fixes as necessary, if for no other reason than they want to keep players interested in the game up until the point when any DLC is planned.

Rumor: Modern Warfare 2 hack attacks your XP
Many Modern Warfare 2 players still debate the game's best piece of weaponry. Fortunately, hackers have settled this timeless dispute once and for all: It is, of course, the gun that hurtles your opponent back in time, back to the days when he or she was a lowly, classless Private. Okay, there's apparently a new homebrewed glitch which accomplishes this feat, not a gun -- but it would be awesome if there was. We're envisioning the Infanto Ray which Borf used in Space Ace to turn awesome-Dexter into pantywaist-Dexter.
Yes, according to a few incensed forum posters, hackers have allegedly found a way to augment the amount of experience rewarded for killing them. Instead of the usual 50- or 100-point increments we usually see, these dubious players can punish their murderers with negative five million points, dropping their hard-earned rank back to level 1. Check out a NSFW video after the break to see this horrific new exercise (which appears to only be happening on Xbox Live) in motion. We've contacted the folks at Infinity Ward to find out what they're doing to crack down on these total Borfs.
