I saw a work-in-progress screening of GAME last night. It blew me away. The premise is intriguing, the action is outstanding - not a boring minute in the film. I am not a fan of Gerard Butler in general, I find his acting terribly limited, but he was fine. Logan Lerman and Michael C. Hall were great and there is a musical number in the film that is pure genius. Made me want to stand up and cheer. The whole film is like an explosion right in your face. Everything is over the top - the style, the violence, the story. It is a real fun ride while being incredible edgy and dark. There is also quite a bit of social criticism layered in there, dealing with voyeurism, cocooning, the culture of video games. Leaving the theater I didn't know if I wanted to rush home and get my XBox going or never play a video game again. Great job, Neveldine/Taylor! Can't wait to see it again with all the special effects done!

The more footage of Gamer is shown by Lionsgate the more I want to see the movie. Especially with the latest international trailer of Gamer which gives a much better look at what to expect in the film:
GAMER
In the future a new form of entertainment will be unleashed!
This Fall
Some live to play others play to live
with Gerard Butler The core premise of Gamer is nothing really new: take a few inmates and pit them against one each other, from Gladiator to the latest remake of Death Race, we got plenty of movies like this. But I feel like there is something more in Gamer. Looks like there is more depth in the plot of Gamer, real issues about freedom and technology are raised. And the whole thing is still balanced with lot of action. I think that the movie Gamer will become cult.

Plot: "Set in the near-future, mind-control technology has taken society by storm and a multiplayer on-line game called 'Slayers' allows humans control other humans in mass-scale. Simon controls Kable (Gerard Butler) the on-line champion of the game, and with his every move tracked by millions, his ultimate challenge becomes regaining his identity and independence by defeating the game's mastermind (Hall) through launching an attack on the system that has imprisoned him."
Cast: - Gerard Butler as Kable, the highest-ranked warrior in the game "Slayers" - Logan Lerman as Simon, who controls Kable - Milo Ventimiglia as Rick Rape, described as "Moonraker, silver grill, with a latex outfit making him look like a bumblebee - Aaron Yoo as Humanez Dude - Ludacris - Alison Lohman as Trace - Kyra Sedgwick as Gina Parker Smith - Michael C. Hall as Ken Castle - John Leguizamo as Freek - Johnny Whitworth as Scotch - Zoe Bell as Sandra - Amber Valletta as Angie
This looks like a hell of action! The movie Gamer I bet will appeal not only to player hordes but also to a larger public. The central theme of Gamer raises issues that we must not wait to debate because we are likely to deal with them in a near future: the pace of technology progress is such that the mind-control gizmo from Gamer isn't so farfetched....
