A selection of user-made videos from this year's E3 highlight some of the details we have been hearing about earlier in the week.
In an podcast interview with Rock, Paper, Shotgun, Valve's Chet Faliszek confirmed that Left 4 Dead 2 had been in development since just after the original game was released.
Four new survivors will be introduced, with their background provided
in a similar way to the original through dialogue in the game. The
survivors are Coach, a high-school football coach; Rochelle, a reporter
for a local cable company; Ellis, a boy mechanic; and Nick, a gambler
and conman.
Faliszek stated that Left 4 Dead 2's storyline will explore
more of the world created by the game, and that Valve has created a
full story for the cause and effects of the infection pandemic,
including terms that they have used for the AI Director.
Since Left 4 Dead 2 was announced, Valve have been taken to task over an article on VideoGamer last September in which Gabe Newell said:
So we’ll do the same thing with Left 4 Dead where
we’ll have the initial release and then we’ll release more movies, more
characters, more weapons, unlockables, achievements, because that’s the
way you continue to grow a community over time.
Doug Lombardi defended their decision to announce a full sequel in an interview with Rock, Paper, Shotgun by saying that the feedback they received from the community was that they wanted more campaigns and more content.
He added that three new Special infected, 20 new weapons and five new campaigns is more than just DLC, and that between now and November, we'll see more of the game unveiled at Comic-Con and PAX '09, so that fans will see why a full sequel is necessary.
Interestingly, Lombardi says that content made with the forthcoming SDK will also be compatible with Left 4 Dead 2.
