Mass Effect 2 (PC, X360) - Tou curioso. Apenas curioso.
Need for Speed Shift (PC, PS3, X360) - Gosto de jogos de carros. Os últimos NFS foram trampas autênticas. A ideia da EA virar o NFS para um género mais Simulator poderá resultar bem...
The King of Fighters XII (PS3, X360) - Qual será o poder de resposta ao SFIV?
Nouveau projet de Kojima Productions - Apenas curioso...
Fat Princess (PS3) - Só me apetece dizer "NÃO METAM ESTE JOGO À VENDA!

I’m certain that you’ve heard all about the rumors about the slim Playstation 3, but we all know that Sony is losing at least $40.00 per console that it sells. So the question is this: Will we find ourselves with a new model for the PS3? Will Sony announce the PSP Go!? Will Uncharted 2 be a megaton? Let’s theorize on all these questions and more!
We first must realize that almost everything about Sony is a different sort of beast. It doesn’t matter if they want to admit it or not, but they are dead last in the console sales race right now. Some months the Playstation 2 sells more than it’s big brother, and that has to be a slight disappointment., although it is obvious that every PS2 sold at this point is pure profit.
My first piece of advice for Sony moving forward is to forget about the past, and strive towards a profitable future. The economy is no joke, and an expensive console is not going to sell as well as the consoles that cost $199.99 or $249.99. Yes the PS3 is a Blu-ray player, and yes the PS3 has some good games now, but it is still expensive. A possible solution that I give has already possible been unveiled: a smaller, slim model, without all the bells and whistles, for a price comparable to the Wii. All that matters at this point is the need to push consoles, and the Sony brand, into homes across the world.
Perhaps this new slim model is real, and it will be officially announced at Sony’s E3 press conference on June the 2nd, 2009. Perhaps through extensive research they’ve discovered how to make their console cheaper, and they’re going to offer it to the public later on in the summer and totally phase out the old ones. On the other side of the coin it could be fake, and there is nothing to be announced.
Perhaps we should get beyond new consoles, and even new handhelds. The PSP Go! is a done deal, it’s coming. There is too much outside confirmation calling it real. Like I said, let’s get beyond games and go where it matters: software.
The first exclusive killer-app for the Playstation 3 must be InFamous. You ask any of the hardcore crowd and they’re picking it up as soon as they can. It’s exclusive, and it’s been reported early by many outlets that it’s excellent. It’s a must have title that could potentially push the sales of consoles. Sony needs to announce more games like this at their press conference. They need Massive Action Game [title is a work in progress] to work, and work right.
There is one last thing that Sony really needs to figure out how to do, and somehow make this a part of E3. You need a face that interacts with the public. When I think people at Microsoft I think about Major Nelson. When I think about Nintendo I think about Reggie. When I think about Sony I think about Crash Bandicoot, or a Helghast!
All in all Sony, the ball is in your court. You’ve got choices to make, and a game plan to execute. How you do it will be all up to you. You’ve come a long way since your launch, and given us some excellent AAA titles and content: Sony, it’s time to rival Nintendo.

Everyone whose played Grand Theft Auto 3 or 4 has said the same thing to themselves, "This would make an awesome online game!" For years the dream of a GTA MMO has been a flight of idle fancy. But now, everyone who ever wanted to ransack a persistent city online with a bunch of their friends is about to see their dreams come true. APB, billed as a massive-multiplayer cops-and-robbers game, is coming to E3 next month. I know what you're saying; APB isn't Grand Theft Auto. That's true, but both games share the same father.
Earlier this month, Capcom released a list of the titles they would be bringing to E3 2009. On the list were two unnamed games to be revealed during the show. Apparently, though, someone at Capcom isn't very good at keeping secrets. In an issue of Nintendo Power, Capcom just revealed the identity of one of their secret games. Tatsunoko vs Capcom (for the Wii) will be yet another Capcom crossover fighting game, like the Marvel vs Capcom series. This one will contain all of your old favorite Capcom characters (except for Zangief, what the hell, Capcom?) fighting against characters created by Tatsunoku Productions, a Japanese animation company. This game is out in Japan, so there's an incredibly detailed Wikipedia entry for it already.
So, it turns out that back in 2007 Microsoft filed a patent application for a motion controller that they called a Magic Wand. The BBC says that the release of the patent has lead many to believe that Microsoft will be showing off a 'Wii-mote killer' to the world at E3 2009. By now you've probably heard of the Microsoft ZCam, the new Xbox motion sensor device that is expected to see daylight for the first time at E3. The Magic Wand is designed to feed motion data to "a collection of sensors", which could be referring to the ZCam. However the ZCam is supposed to be an entire motion-sensing set-up all on its own, without any need for a controller.

Numerous Japanese companies concerned over H1N1 outbreak
of Capcom producer Keiji Inafune canceling his trip to Sweden for a game convention due to Capcom's policies concerning foreign travel during the current H1N1 scare.Looks like that fear is extending to E3 2009, as Capcom is now reviewing the number of Japanese employees originally planning to attend the Los Angeles convention. This is also a major reason Dead Rising 2 will not be shown at this year's E3.Sadly, Capcom is not the only Japanese game company reducing their Japanese presence at E3 because of H1N1; Square Enix and Koei have also decided to pull Japanese employees from the convention. The Kingdom Hearts team will no longer be attending, while Koei will be allowing some of their staff to travel. Both European and North American Square Enix and Koei staff will be present alongside the reduced number of Japanese reps. On a more positive note, neither Sony and Nintendo intend to limit their turnout. em: http://www.neoseeker.com/news/10774-koei-and-square-enix-lower-attendance-to-e3/

E3 2009 Preview: These Are The Big Racing Games, We Think
In one week, E3 will reveal just about every major game you will be able to play in the next year. For racing game fans, these are the big ones expected at the big show:
Blur - Activision is hoping for a Call Of Duty-scale new racing franchise, from Bizarre Creations. Realistic cars, low-stress handling, mixed with Mario Kart -style pick-ups on the track. (Expected for all major platforms)
Split/Second - Disney's Hollywood-action racing game, includes huge track-deforming effects that players can trigger, like destroying gas stations or causing buildings to fall and alter the course. (Expected for all major platforms. Preview here.)
Need for Speed x3? - EA's got a Need For Speed: Nitro for the Wii, the more realistic Need For Speed: Shift for higher-end consoles and PC. Plus there's a Need for Speed: World free PC game coming. Maybe we'll see that too?
Fuel - Codesmasters' racing game with its massive world will be out the week of E3, which means it'll maybe show up at the big show.
MotorStorm Arctic Edge - Sony's PSP revival is supposed to include a cold-weather edition of the MotorStorm franchise, the one that pits cars against trucks against motorcycles against craggy cliffs. (PSP/PS2. Preview here.)
UPDATE: More avid racing games than I pointed out that I excluded the deserving Dirt 2. Consider that sin confessed publicly. Game's coming to all current platforms, handhelds and PC.
Bond Racing project - Bizarre Creations is expected to be working on a James Bond racing game of some sort, but we don't' hold out much hope that it will be at E3.
New Forza? - It's rumored, and it seems awfully plausible.
Gran Turismo PSP or 5? - GTPSP, announced in 2004, is Duke Nukem Forever of racing games. Despite the game being a favorite E3 guess of podcast pundits such as the guys on Listen Up, who wants to bet that a portable game or it's long-in-the-making first full-sized PS3 big brother will be at E3?
What's the trend here?
EA and Activision are in a deathmatch/deathrace with their competing racing franchises, pitting the branding power of Activision against the franchise success of the slightly faded Need For Speed line. In general, those games and the others point to racing games tilting more toward the arcade-y side of things.
While the racing games of E3 2009 look to have an arcade style, the cars themselves will likely continue to trend toward realistic visual styles. After all, with Nintendo coasting on sales of Mario Karts for Wii and DS — plus having just released ExciteBots Trick Racing — the chief purveyors of cutesy cars are likely on the racing sidelines for this year's big show.

Alinhamento da Activision para a E3:
In these weeks leading up to E3, we've been talking about news games as the embargos drop and announcements hit. But it's crazy to see how many big titles Activision has lined up for this year -- it reminds you of how big of a company they've become over the years. It's impressive how high-profile their line-up is this year. Check it out:
Citação :
* Blur * DJ Hero * Guitar Hero 5 * Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 * Modern Warfare 2 * PROTOTYPE * Singularity * Tony Hawk: RIDE * Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen * Wolfenstein
"At this year's E3, we will debut the largest and strongest lineup in our company's history," said Mike Griffith, President and CEO, Activision Publishing, Inc. "Our innovative slate features games based on some of the industry's largest franchises, as well as exciting new offerings in the music, racing and action-sports genres that are poised to redefine the interactive entertainment experience."
Guitars and race cars and robots, oh my! Oh, and a couple of new IPs. What games are you interested in? I'm looking forward to Blur and DJ Hero myself. Also, Activision stock.
Estou curioso para ver o Wolfenstein. Foi o título que me marcou no mundo dos Video Games na minha infância... e espero que não desaponte na sua adaptação à nova Geração

Sony’s Biggest E3 Announcements Ever
closeAuthor: Anthony SeverinoName: Anthony Severino Email: sev1512@playstationlifestyle.net Site: http://playstationlifestyle.net About: Owner / Editor-in-ChiefSee Authors Posts (388) The general consensus among gaming media and fans alike is that E3 2009 could be Sony’s biggest showing in the history of the PlayStation brand. Rumors, leaks, and a massive pre-E3 media event have helped fuel the hype for what is set to be quite an amazing show. PlayStation LifeStyle has the great pleasure of seeing this first hand, and will work tirelessly to bring you all possible coverage of the PlayStation brand, no matter how big or small the news. Before E3 begins, and Sony takes the gaming world by storm, we are bringing you a trip down memory lane by giving you a recap of Sony’s biggest E3 showings of the past. This way, you can see exactly what Sony’s showing at E3 2009 is up against, and you can be the judge of whether or not this will be Sony’s best year ever! E3 1995 SEGA, after having two poorly-received hardware offerings with the SEGA CD and 32X, needed to impress the crowd at the very first E3. SEGA had previously announced the SEGA Saturn before the show which had a scheduled release date of September 2, 1995. However at the SEGA Keynote, it was announced that the SEGA Saturn was secretly shipped to retailers the night before, and was now on sale for $399. A move that left retailers unhappy, and gamers without many launch titles to choose from. This, shortly after, was completely overshadowed by Sony. Olaf Olafsson (who named this guy?) took the stage at Sony’s keynote and announced the release date for the Sony PlayStation. The real shocker, and what could have been the death blow to Sega before the PlayStation was even released, was the announcement that it would release for the price of $299. Also shown during E3 were what soon became PlayStation franchise mainstays: Ridge Racer, Tekken, and WipEout. This marked the beginning of Sony’s reign over the gaming industry. E3 2000 History repeated itself a bit with E3 2000. The Sega Dreamcast had been released in North America the prior year and was off to a rough start. Its CD-based software medium constrained the visions of many developers. While the PS2 had already been announced in Japan previously, there hadn’t been a release date set for the American market. Sony took the opportunity to do so at E3 2000, and set the big day for October 26 of the same year. Although this time around, Sony’s console was priced higher than SEGA’s by $100; it offered DVD playback, as well as DVD-ROM as the software medium, allowing for larger games. The inclusion of the DVD player may have been Sony’s most genius idea yet. It helped introduce the PS2 into the homes of anyone interested in DVD players, as it offered a decent quality DVD player, along with PlayStation brand gaming for around the price of your average DVD player at the time. E3 2000 wasn’t all about hardware, in fact it was the software that really stole the show. One title in particular had fans and media floored. That title was Metal Gear Solid 2, the follow up to the fan favorite Metal Gear Solid on the original PlayStation (now known as the PSOne). The sheer detail of MGS2 is what impressed the crowd, and it really showed of what the PS2 was capable of. While MGS2 didn’t make the PS2’s launch, Sony had plenty of other titles to show, 51 of which were scheduled to be available by Christmas of 2000. E3 2003 window.google_render_ad();window.google_render_ad(); Kaz Harai takes the stage at Sony’s Keynote during E3 ‘03, and had plenty of major announcements to discuss. He started off with the announcement of a revised PS2 in the works. The revision boasted progressive DVD playback, a built in IR port for use with a remote, reduced fan noise, and would be bundled with a Network Adapter. Sony continued to strut its planned online strategy, which was a direct response to the undeniable success of Xbox Live. Games that were shown included Final Fantasy XI, SOCOM II, and pledged support from EA Sports’ future lineup. Of course Sony wasn’t done there. Dr. Richard Marx then took the stage and demonstrated the PS EyeToy. The EyeToy was a USB web cam that allowed for interaction with images on screen by moving your body and appendages; no controller was needed. Lastly, Sony announced its plans to take on Nintendo and its stronghold over the handheld gaming market with the PlayStation Portable. No Hardware or Software was shown, or demoed, but the announcement was big enough to shock gamers. E3 2005 The PlayStation 2 was in its prime; a large amount of AAA games were shown. The current king of consoles was easily overshadowed by the announcement of its successor, the PlayStation 3. The PlayStation 3 was debuted, boasting some of the most impressive specs ever seen by console gamers. Specs at the time included the cell processor, 1080p High Definition gaming, 3 Ethernet ports, 2 HDMI outputs, 6 USB ports (4 front, 2 rear), Wifi, Bluetooth 2.0, and a built-in Blu-Ray drive. Even with the massive listed specs, the thing that generated the most buzz was the new controller. The new controller wasn’t yet another iteration of the Dualshock, it was a boomerang-shaped controller. Jokes galore hit the internet about how if you were angry after losing in a game, you couldn’t throw the controller, as it might come back and hit you. There was no actual software, however there was plenty of technical demos ready to go that were running on PCs that had specs similar to that of what the PlayStation 3 would have. PlayStation staples such as Devil may Cry, and Tekken were shown (ironically, both went multiplatform). The biggest splash came from the confirmation of Metal Gear Solid 4 being in the works, and the showing of a technical demo of Final Fantasy VII. This immediately sparked excitement from the crowd, as fans thought a FFVII remake was in the works. However, that wasn’t true, as Square quickly make it clear that it was a tech demo only. E3 2006 Not all E3 announcements are good announcements, despite how large they may be. In 2006, Sony announced the price of the now “gimped” (originally the PS3 was to have 2 HDMI outputs, 6 USB ports, 3 ethernet ports, and more) PS3, which was set to $599. Although there was a less-expensive 20GB model announced, which was even more gimped with its removal of wifi, card readers, and a lower-capacity internal hard drive, the price shocked the world. Both Sony’s previous consoles had been released for $299, and history had shown that expensive consoles never fared well. There was the argument that you get what you pay for, and Sony’s newest console was surely a beast. While that was indeed true, the massive price tag scared away many long time PlayStation fans over to the other HD console on the market, the Xbox 360. The price tag was the target of media outlets, which soon started questioning Sony’s motives about the console, claiming it was more about Blu-Ray penetration than making another successful gaming console. To this day, the PlayStation 3 is the most expensive console. Anyone can see that because of this, the sales have been less than Sony (perhaps foolishly) hoped for in comparison to the ridiculously fast-selling PlayStation 2. E3 2009 You have seen our predictions. You have heard the rumors of a redesigned PSP, and a slimmed down PS3. You know the massive lineup of games that are scheduled to be at E3. You know that Sony always has more games that are currently unannounced, and that E3 is prime time to unleash them. Because of those facts, it does seem to be that 2009 will be Sony’s best showing ever. Stay tuned to PlayStation LifeStyle for all of your E3 coverage! em: http://www.warzonegamer.com/2009/05/sonys-biggest-e3-announcements-ever.html

All eyes will be on Nintendo on Tuesday morning as they host their E3 2009 Media Briefing, and after disappointing fans for 2 years in a row by appealing to casual consumers Nintendo has admitted defeat and has promised to spend more time focusing on us, who they commonly refer to as”core gamers”. But what should Nintendo show during their conference? I could spend the whole day listing off titles and franchises that they should revisit but the sake our readers sanity here are my top 5 (in no particular order); 5) New Zelda (Wii)
There is currently a lot of speculation regarding Ninty showing off a new Zelda for the Wii at E3, I’m hoping that they will return to the stylized visuals akin of Wind Waker rather than going for realism. 4) Mario Power Tennis 2 (Wii)
Now is the time! Tennis on Wii Sports was a bonified system seller, so imagine replacing horrible looking Mii’s with Mario characters and giving the controls an overhaul with the magic of Wii Motion Plus… Instant Genius! 3) New Super Mario Bros. 2 (DS)
Please god please! Nothing much needs to be said here, you already have the engine Nintendo so just make the damn thing! 2) Paper Mario RPG (Wii)
2007’s Super Paper Mario was absolutely brilliant, but sadly it wasn’t as compelling as the Gamecube game, When the Gamecube adaptation Paper Mario was released I literally spent 23 hours straight playing it, if they doesn’t prove greatness (or possibly madness on my behalf) then I don’t know what does. 1) Donkey Kong Country 4 (Wii) Donkey Kong is a gaming icon and Nintendo’s oldest remaining character, so why hasn’t he starred in a great game since the original Donkey Kong Country released 15 years ago?. Nintendo needs to step up and bring the gorilla back and what better way to do it than Donkey Kong Country 4? No stupid bongos, no flying jet barrels, just platforming perfection like they did it back in the day. all box arts courtesy of vgboxart.com em: http://www.thekoalition.com/top-5-games-nintendo-should-reveal-at-e3/

SouthPeak Games, one of the fastest growing videogame publishers, today announced its line-up for the 2009 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles from June 2-4, 2009. Located in the South Hall, Booth 623, SouthPeak will showcase many of its upcoming titles with extensive hands-on and producer-led demos, including first-looks and reveals of previously unannounced games.
“We have assembled an outstanding collection of titles for the remainder of the year,” said Richard Iggo, VP of Marketing at SouthPeak. “Anticipation for our sci-fi first person shooter, Section 8, has grown tremendously since the Game Developers Conference in March and we are pleased to announce that attendees at the E3 Expo will have the opportunity to get hands-on with this game, as well as several of our other highly anticipated titles. SouthPeak’s diverse game line-up appeals to virtually every consumer demographic as we commence our 2010 fiscal year with a series of exciting launches starting this summer and continuing well into the holidays.”
The following is a list of titles that will be at the show: Section 8 (Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft & Windows PC – August 2009)
Section 8 is a large-scale, sci-fi first person shooter where fast-paced action meets military strategy in the far reaches of the galaxy. Join the epic battle between the 8th Armored Infantry and the Arm of Orion by taking part in fierce combat across varied alien worlds. Choose the experience you want to play by customizing your own equipment loadouts, and dynamically manipulate the flow of combat with on-demand vehicle requisitions, strategic asset deliveries, and Dynamic Combat Missions.
On a completely player-driven and dynamic battlefield, no two games of Section 8 will ever play the same.
Roogoo Twisted Towers (Wii – Summer 2009) The deceivingly simple addictive gameplay has players rotating floating platforms to allow different shaped meteors to pass through safely. The fast paced action requires quick reflexes to navigate obstacles and complete more than 100 levels over 10 distinct environments. Elements like puzzle boss fights, living environments, full-game co-op, and four player party play provide something for both casual and hardcore gamers.
Fast Food Panic (Nintendo DS, Wii – Fall 2009) Create the best restaurant in the world by cooking up yummy dishes, making your customers happy, greeting them when they stop by, and keeping your restaurant squeaky clean in this vibrant and fast-paced restaurant simulation game. A top-quality restaurant takes a lot of work, and your waitress will need help—keep the place clean, make deliveries, ring up customers, and more. Also features three difficulty levels, over 10 additional cooking mini-games, and Free Mode to replay completed levels and try for the top score.
Raven Squad (Xbox 360 & Windows PC – Fall 2009) Raven Squad is a tactical action game set in the Amazonian jungles, and blends a first person shooter (FPS) experience with the command and overview advantages of a real-time strategy (RTS) game. Players can solve each mission situation using a combination of the two genres on their own or cooperatively with a friend. Also, they always have the ability to switch between six different characters with their own unique background, personalities, behaviors, weapons and skills.
Brave: A Warrior’s Tale (Xbox 360 & Wii – Summer 2009) Set in the fantastic world of Native America, Brave: A Warrior’sTale lets players take on the role of Courage and experience Brave’s legendary adventures. There are over fifteen varied levels, from lush forests to desert plains and even a spirit world, for Courage to explore. With the ability to possess different animals and acquire new skills, Brave offers a memorable experience for gamers of all ages.
Sushi Go Round (Wii & Nintendo DS - Fall 2009)
Sushi Go Round has been played more than 60 million times from Miniclip and these updated versions build on the addictive eat-‘em-up action of the original. You’re responsible for running your very own sushi restaurant, which means memorizing recipes, preparing food, ordering fresh ingredients and – most importantly – working hard to keep the stream of customers happy. But watch out because miserable food critics and demanding bosses, who need constant feeding, could ruin your chances of becoming a world famous sushi chef.

With the May 26 launch of the Personal Trainer: Walking game, Nintendo is inviting consumers to turn their most basic daily movements into an enriching, entertaining experience. Whether they walk for fitness or simply to get from place to place, people of all ages and backgrounds can use Personal Trainer: Walking to monitor and enhance their daily walking routines.
Personal Trainer: Walking is the latest entry in the popular software series that also includes Personal Trainer: Cooking and Personal Trainer: Math. After counting, measuring and recording users’ steps throughout the day, Personal Trainer: Walking creates an engaging series of charts and activities to reveal interesting – or even surprising – “life rhythm” patterns. For instance, the readout might show that a user is most active in the evening, or that mealtimes are typically followed by sedentary periods. Knowing these patterns can help people keep an eye on their plans for the day and watch out for pitfalls of inactivity. People also can rate the kind of day they had or set daily walking goals to improve the quality of their lives. Whether it’s used individually or with family and friends, Personal Trainer: Walking provides a fun, interactive way for people to monitor their walking lifestyle.
“Walking is by far America’s favorite physical activity,” said walking expert Mark Fenton. “It’s low cost, safe and can be done just about anywhere and anytime. In my experience, what people really need is motivation – something that inspires them and helps them to be active every day and see the progress they have made. For many people, Personal Trainer: Walking is just the thing to keep them motivated and having fun with walking.”
“Whether you walk for pleasure or exercise, Personal Trainer: Walking will keep track of your movements and help you set goals for yourself,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “Like Wii Sports and Wii Fit, Personal Trainer: Walking is about combining fun features and technology with physical activity. It gives everyone an engaging way to enjoy the benefits of walking.” Two Activity Meter accessories are included with each copy of Personal Trainer: Walking. Unlike ordinary pedometers, Activity Meters count and record steps during a given period of time and can be synced to send data wirelessly to a Nintendo DS or Nintendo DSi system, where each user’s personal step data is converted into visual displays of interesting statistics. Users can track their walking activity over time. Activity Meters can store up to seven days’ worth of information, and the Nintendo DS game card can keep track of up to five years’ worth of downloaded data. Up to four people can store their individual results on a single Personal Trainer: Walking game card. Users can even get their pet dogs into the action by attaching an Activity Meter to their dog’s collar.
Personal Trainer: Walking is the first Nintendo DS game that allows users to import customized Mii characters from the Wii console, or design a Mii character from scratch when creating game profiles. It’s one of the many ways that Nintendo turns an ordinary activity like walking into a fun daily adventure. As users accumulate walking data, they can incorporate their recorded steps into fun activities. “Illuminate” invites users to brighten up a virtual town, while “Walk the World” transforms footsteps into iconic images of interesting locations around the globe. With Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, users who have wireless broadband Internet access can upload their data and team with other users for a “Space Walk,” reaching faraway planets virtually by combining their step totals.
Personal Trainer: Walking is rated E for Everyone and is available May 26 at a suggested retail price of $49.99. For more information about Personal Trainer: Walking, visit www.PersonalTrainerWalking.com.

May 28, 2009 - Confessional section: a long, long time ago my best friend and I bought SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs for our PlayStation 2s with dreams of playing across the empty space that separated our homes. After popping it in and finding it wasn't the run-and-gun action we were looking for, the PS2 Internet adapters and the SEALs discs began gathering dust that wouldn't get cleaned off until it was trade-in time.
After an afternoon of SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo 3, I can tell you that I'm ready to convert to the Church of Slant Six as well as call my bud and tell him he might want to think about buying a PSP and preordering this game.
document.write("");
Yes, I got to kick the tires on the E3 build of SOCOM yesterday, and although I was still traipsing through the snowy compound found in the mission titled "Stockpile" -- the same level I put through some single-player action last month -- this time I was doing it with one of the game's developers thanks to SOCOM's brand new co-op mode.
Available in both ad-hoc and infrastructure modes, co-op sets you and up to three additional friends (or random strangers) loose on the game's nine-mission story. If you've polished off the official missions already, you can hop into the options and modify the experience as you see fit by changing the objectives, enemy placement, and more. Whoever is setting up the match will act as the squad commander named Wraith (who is the same leader from the single-player campaign) and choose the mission from the Operations Map that opens every level. Once that's decided and the room is named -- feel free to put a password on it to keep the riffraff out -- players can begin joining and customizing their loadouts with the 70 available weapons, each of which can have five different attachments.
Once you get into the game, things are pretty much the same as the single-player experience -- which speaks to the stability of the engine and the fluidity of gameplay. Of course, instead of playing in silence I was now shouting out enemy locations to my partner and planning attacks. Because I was playing an ad-hoc match, the shouting was the easiest way to keep the team in line, and the same will be said for infrastructure because the game supports voicechat. Now, there were just two of us for this snowy romp -- the AI plays the other half of the team when you don't have a full quartet -- but SOCOM supports drop-in and drop-out gameplay, so if another friend had tried to join, he or she could've popped into our game without a problem.
Aside from the fact that the game was running well -- allowing me and my partner to strafe, automatically duck behind cover when I wasn't locked on to anyone, etc. -- it was actually a lot of fun to play. Sure, I had played through this level during Sony's L.A. event in April, but this time, I could hear the rat-a-tat of my machine gun, listen to my squad commands get shouted as a I chose them on the screen, and man a turret in an attempt to make a whole lot of the enemy's wives widows. You tap Left on the D-Pad to switch weapons, tap Right to change firing modes, tap Up to use your scope and tap Down to go back to your normal view. Everything from using Triangle to go prone and Square to reload felt like it was in the right place and a breeze to get the hang of.
Take them -- dead or alive.
Never being one for complicated menus, I was happy to get some more time in with SOCOM's squad commands. Tapping circle while targeting an enemy tells the troops to take the target out, aiming at an area and tapping the button tells the guys to move to that point and tapping while targeting a door has the squad turn the handle and clear the area. If you want to get into the nitty-gritty and tell the boys to fire at will, be stealthy, and a whole bunch of other stuff, you can hold circle and navigate an on-screen menu. Swank.
Really, we've only just scratched the surface of SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo 3, but my demo only lasted so long, you know? Although Slant Six isn't ready to talk about it, there is a competitive multiplayer side of the game for two to 16 players and there are online clans. Of course, there are also medals and ribbons to earn, weapons to unlock and intel documents to find. It seems like you're going to have a lot to do in this T-rated title.
Want to know more about SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo 3? Well, I've already told you about everything Slant Six and Sony will be showing at E3, but you can hit up the two-player tournaments the Official PlayStation Blog is hosting Sunday, May 31, 2009. After that, keep checking out IGN's E3 index for everything coming out of the show.
