Rumor: New PS3 XMB coming at E3


The XMB has been a cause for concern by some PlayStation owners, but it looks like it'll be getting a new redesign next month during Sony's E3 conference.

When Sony originally revealed the XMB for the PSP, it was sleek, clean, and easy to navigate, but on the PS3 it's everything but easy to many gamers. It's rough to use when playing a game, you can't easily go to
your messages like you can on the Xbox 360, and people have been finding faults with the XMB over the years. Though Sony has made considerable improvements to it since the PS3 launch, people still aren't happy, but changes are about to be made.

On the last episode of the CheapAssGamerpodcast, CheapyD stated that he knows "for a fact" that Sony will
show a PS3 XMB redesign at E3. He doesn't delve into what changes will be implemented or if it'll have new features like cross-game chat, but it's certainly something forward to. If true, they'll likely release the
firmware the same night of the announcement.

Since Sony hasn't officially stated any such plans, this is considered a rumor for now. We'll know for certain in a month.

VG247 has learnt that Sony is to reveal plans for PSN’s premium services at E3.

According to a highly-placed source, Sony will announce a large-scale monetizing scheme for PSN at the LA show, but we’re assured nothing planned will impact the service’s current free aspects.
A string of features will be revealed, apparently costing “less than £50 per year”. Sony will confirm plans to give all subscribers one free PSN game per month, from a choice of “two to four” every month.

“If you work it out, PSN games cost an average of £6-9 each, so over a year you’re basically going to be breaking even,” said our source.

A streaming music application similar to Spotify will be announced in Sony’s press conference on June 15. It’s thought that this can run in the background while playing games.

Rumours that cross-game voice chat is being saved as a paid feature are apparently not true, we were told.
“I can tell you now, 100 percent, that that’s not the case,” our man continued.

“There’s nothing in the premium package which will gimp regular PSN users.”

The PSN premium services announcement is thought to be a major part
of Sony’s E3 conference, which will also heavily feature Move.

It’s thought that a PSP2 announcement, for this reason, is unlikely, and will be saved for either gamescom or TGS later this year. Get more detail on that here.

According to Joystiq's sources, Sony is set to reveal a premium tier of the PlayStation Network service, labeled PSN+, during its 2010 E3 media briefing. Unlike Microsoft's Xbox Live Gold service, PSN+ will focus on
giving paid subscribers additional bonuses without limiting online multiplayer between paying and nonpaying users.

Many of the features included in the premium service mimic those featured in a supposed survey released late
last year. Sources tell us that subscribers will have access to a rotating list of PSP Minis and PSone Classics, exclusive in-game DLC, discounts to the PlayStation Store and "first hour" demo access to full retail titles. Following the first hour of gameplay, players will have the ability to purchase the full title; however, demo access will only be available once the entire title has been downloaded.

As PSN+ subscribers, gamers will also receive protection for their consoles with the recently announced PlayStation Protection Plan, as well as exclusive access to the long-awaited cross-game voice chat. Additional features are said to be in the works following the launch of PSN+, including the previously rumored cloud-based saving system.

Joystiq has been informed that PSN+ subscribers will also have the ability to enable an auto-patching feature, which will detect, download and install updates for recently played PS3 titles on the system.

Pricing and a release for the PSN+ service is unknown, though one source speculates PSN+ may cost $9.99 per month. When contacted, a Sony representative said the company does not "comment on rumors or
speculation."

quem tem 600 euros para uma consola tem 10 euros para... falar.

Pelo que ouvi dizer o cross game chat vem para todos e acho bem porque não faz sentido só poder falar com quem tem PSN+ seria mesmo estúpido.

Quanto ao preço eles que façam mais de 5€ por mês e vão ver o flop que isso vai ser...

desde que o online continue grátis até podem cobrar 20€ por isto , é mais uma opção, não acho que se justifique pelo preço mas whataver o importante é jogar online o resto é acessório...

speculation, it’s taken the boss to confirm it. In some capacity, at
least.
Andrew House, president of SCEE, confirmed that PlayStation 3 owners
would be getting a “premium” level PlayStation Network soon in his The
People vs Andrew House article on PlayStation.com yesterday.
“I can assure you that the current PSN as you know it will remain a
free service,” he said. “It is something that our competitors don’t
offer and something that shows our loyalty to the PlayStation
Community.”
“However,” he adds, when asked whether there’d be a paying service,
“Kaz Hirai stated a few months ago that we were looking at a premium
service to sit alongside the current free service and that
objective has not changed.”
“You’ll learn more about it very soon.”
He also said Gran Turismo 5 will be “out soon” and on the subject of
Cross-Game Chat, Sony know that it’s “something that the community
wants” and says they’ll have an answer on when it’s coming “very soon”.
