Section 8 is a new sci-fi FPS title being developed by Timegate Studios, who are probably most well known for their work on the expansion packs for F.E.A.R. - namely F.E.A.R. Files, F.E.A.R. Perseus and F.E.A.R. Extraction, and the game is being published by Southpeak Interactive.
Currently being set for a release in August 2009 of this year, it is to be released on both the Xbox 360 and PC platforms. The game itself is described as being a ‘large-scale sci-fi first person shooter where fast-paced action meets military strategy in the far reaches of the galaxy,’ and invites gamers to join the squad ranks of either the 8th Armored Infantry or the Arm of Orion , as they fiercely combat to take control of a variety of alien worlds.
The style of gameplay is seemingly going to be placed in the players hands, through allowing them to openly customise their own equipment to match their choice of tactics - there will clearly be plenty of variety to how each game will be play out, and it will be surely exciting for gamers to find a set-up that will tailor to their own methods of carnage! This sees another FPS title move away from the traditional Class systems adopted by so many other online games.
Players will enter the battle via deployment from dropships 15,000 feet above the battlefield, and will openly be allowed to choose anywhere on the map to land. On top of this, vehicles and assets may be requested for delivery anywhere on the map for the player to use. One particularly interesting facet of the game is the inclusion of Dynamic Combat Missions (DCMs) that will offer players randomly generated objective driven gameplay - it’ll be great to see how this works, and will hopefully present a vast variety of modes and tasks to aim to provide either team with the upper hand.
A single player campaign will be included in the game alongside online multiplayer, and there will also be modes for the player to practice against AI Bots. It is hard not to relate such a game from having taken inspiration from the likes of popular sci-fi titles such as Mass Effect and Halo, in terms of graphics and looks, yet this is clearly a game that has enough individuality to ensure it is a title to keep an eye out for - as always we’ll aim to keep you posted of any upcoming news and footage as the games release approaches.
In the meantime, Timegate Studios are allowing gamers to sign up for Betas in both North America and Europe, so feel free to head on over to their site and check it out
